Kindergarten

Available at all of our locations in Calgary and in Strathmore, Kids U’s Kindergarten program is uniquely based on their individual stage of development, and not simply on age group. Between the ages of 3 to 6 years old, children are capable of retaining extensive information and Kids U’s programs help them to begin to truly understand early numeracy, literacy and science concepts.

What We Teach
Kids U’s left brain curriculum uses prepared materials and activities to teach children mathematics, science, reading, writing and comprehension skills in addition to practical life skills.

The right brain classrooms at Kids U are inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy of teaching, where play-based learning, creativity and individuality take centre stage. This enriching and supportive environment encourages discovery and exploration.

Our movement program combines Kids U’s left brain and right brain values to a traditional gym setting, creating a one-of-a-kind physical education curriculum. Here, children not are not only developing healthy bodies but healthy brains as well.

the kids-u difference

Scheduling

Our preschool and kindergarten programs play an integral role in developing the child’s independence and sense of responsibility.

During these developmental years, children begin to transition from being nappers to becoming non-nappers. Our classrooms accommodate both of these stages by providing separate rooms and individual schedules for each child.

Kids U offers three time options for you to choose from to accommodate the weekly schedule you desire for child care.

  • Preschool Only hours (8:30 am to 3:00 pm) afford the children the most exposure to our extensive curriculum. This schedule is available two, three, and five days a week for your convenience. Based on the availability of space at each site, you are able to choose your desired days.
  • Preschool and Care hours (7:00 am to 5:30 pm at our Calgary schools and 6:30 am to 6:00 pm at our Strathmore location) give you the flexibility for full day care as well as benefiting from the extra programming that support our core curriculum hours. This schedule is available for two, three or five days a week for your convenience. You are able to choose your days based on the space availability at your desired location.
  • Half Day Preschool (8:30 am to 11:30 am or 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm) is available to preschoolers and kindergarteners only. In order to ensure children receive the same quality of education, this schedule is available five days a week only. The Kids U curriculum requires a minimum 12-15 hours per week in the classroom for full educational benefits.

In our toddler program, we reflect cultural diversity to stimulate a broader palate, and our cooks use local and organic produce whenever possible.
